Roland El Khoury Is a Lebanese University graduate with a B.A. in drawing earned in 2007. His passion for drawing stems from the therapeutic relief it has provided him. Through his art, he has managed to navigate and overcome numerous challenges from his childhood. He vividly remembers his first experience with a hearing aid; as a young student, he faced curious stares and struggled with confidence, which often affected him negatively. Eventually, he stopped using the hearing aid, fearing he might lose his hearing entirely. To cope, he began drawing the songs he cherished, hoping these visual representations would offer solace if his ability to listen were ever diminished.
His collection, "Solace - Before the World Turned Silent," comprises fourteen unique chapters, each inspired by a song that guided him through societal pressures and the fear of losing his hearing. These pieces transform his struggles into compelling works of art. Painting has become his gateway to other realms where he preservee fragments of his personal journey—each stroke a rhythm and hue that keeps his soul engaged.
This collection represents fourteen stages of growth and self-discovery. In his creative process, he works on both canvas and cardboard, using watercolor, acrylics, graphite and ink pens to illustrate his drawings. This approach allows him to capture the essence of each song and moment with depth and texture.
My love for hearing sounds and voices, as well as navigating the space between music and silence,
has profoundly influenced my work. As I continue to find peace with my hearing, I remain committed to
exploring new artistic horizons and sharing future chapters of my journey.
